ZIONE GROSSHUESCH

The bedroom is located on the second floor, right above the mean living area. The room has been converted from a loft space to a main bedroom. To enter the space, one must walk through a wood paneled door (2’8” width). There are two closets (5’7” wide by 1’5” depth) one on the West and the other on East sides of the bedroom. Both closets have wood paneled bypass doors, the closets contain clothes and extra blankets. The queen-sized bed is centered in front of the three windows on the South wall. On either side of the bed are two matching antique side tables. Facing the bed is a dresser with a mirror and next to the dresser is an upholstered arm chair in the corner of the room. In between the closet and the arm chair there is a small table and a wicker laundry basket. Next to the bed in the nook, centered on the eastern wall between the closet and the exterior wall is a dresser.

The vaulted ceiling influences the placement of furniture throughout the room. In the center of the room the ceiling is at the standard 8 feet, but at the edges of the room the ceiling is as low as 3’ 10”. The bed frame is made from solid cherry wood with a linen comforter on top and two sets of pillows placed at the head of the bed. There are two side tables, on one of them there is the book Push. On the wall next to the other side table, is a decorative porcelain hooks, a bag and sweater hanging from it. On the top of the second antique dresser there is a bundle of sage.

This Actor Networking map takes a look at the new Hickory wood flooring that was just installed in the bedroom. The wood was manufactured by a company called Sheoga which is based out of Geauga County Ohio, in Amish country. They sustainably source the lumber, air dry/season it then is placed in a kiln to finish the process. They also use the heat from the kiln to heat their facility. Even though they're practicing environmentally conscious practices I kept on thinking about their logo. For the Sheoga logo, they have an indigenous person depicted, the Native American image has been often used to show that a product has “quality”. Even though the indigenous community has asked people to refrain from the use of their stereotyped image, this plea often is ignored or brushed off. The use of the native American image has led to countless suicides and the indigenous population is suffering from an all-time high number of deaths among young adults it's gotten to the point where the community has become numb from the amount of grief.

The forest industry is a very large part of the USA manufacturing sector and is a $210 billion industry. By letting the forests grow and allowing them to clean up the air there has been a whole new market that has popped up. This new market is carbon offset credits, large manufacturing industries have started to buy carbon offset credits to cut back on government taxes. The Yukon people have started to take advantage of this market and now use their forest restorative practices to sell the carbon offset credits to companies of their choosing they have used some of this money to buy back their land.

The organizational diagram of the bedroom highlights the natural light, circulation, the spatial relations of the closets, and the mass of the bed. The bed has an effect on the circulation within the room, it is positioned under the window on the South wall. There are two circulation paths, the primary path around the bed and the secondary framing the small furniture. The two closets meet the bed at the two different points asymmetrically. The natural light coming in disperses across the room, divided by the window mullions.

The graphic composition has nine lines that are split into five dynamics. The two closets are made up of a dashed thick line to show their mass and highlight their relationship to the bed. The secondary circulation rectangle is represented by a sequential rounded faded dashed line adding to the circular motion. The bed is represented by an off kilter dashed line, the asymmetry of the dashes shows the irregular sleep patterns. The primary path of circulation is bold dominating and crosses over itself at times, similar to how one crosses one's legs when turning. The path gets smaller as it nears the bed showing that it becomes less dominant. The natural light is overlaid with a delicate light dashed line showing the hierarchies of the objects around it.

The vectors taken from the graphic composition have been extruded to 6 heights (2’-7’) which created a number of blocks. The primary circulation path progressively gets smaller and shorter as it moves away from the entrance. The light ombre area is the natural light coming in over the bed. The light grey stripes at the bottom is the exterior sunlight streaming in.

The pale blue section is the light filtering through the room on an angle, the subtle lines allow it to move softly throughout the space. The secondary circulation path is very faint and appears under the natural light. The lines relationship with the closets is set at the height of the bed. The bed floats above the ground to show the space for the dog.

The large block under the natural light puts into perspective the height of the natural light at seven feet and shows the edge of the room. The closets are angled at the top in reference to the vaulted ceilings. Half of the closet's dashed lines have been flipped 90 degrees which creates a checkered pattern alluding to the clothes inside. The height of the circulation starts at 6 feet for human scale and gets smaller as it gets closer to the bed until it reaches bed level.
