YUTONG ZHAO
This two-story restaurant is located on South State St in downtown Ann Arbor. The walls are constructed with a concrete block and 15 windows on it. The first floor of this building is 17 ft high and there is a mezzanine. The roof is constructed with yellow concrete and there is only one wall facing the street.
The entire restaurant is divided into indoor and outdoor dining areas. There are two doors next to the window leading to the outdoor dining area. There is a dining area on the first floor and a mezzanine inside. The steel web truss runs east-west, from the center to the outer wall, with exposed mechanical pipes running through it.
This diagram shows the building as a kit-of-parts including metal panels, glass panes, concrete walls, door, steel columns, ceiling light frame, bricks, mechanical ducts, wooden stairs, window frame and handrails.
The plant stuff ANT map explores how plants affect human and interior architecture space, and finds out the relationship between human, architecture and plants. Based on that concept, the map explores more about some materials made of plants.
The wellness stuff ANT map focuses on the benefits of wellness candles to the human body and space. Candles is one of the most famous wellness products now. Also, the map explores more about the history of the wellness industry which provides more information about wellness.
My design includes plants and wellness stuff assembled by making 7 frames and using bridges and stairs to connect them. Some parts of these frames are covered by two types of glass which represent different stuff inside those frames. Individual materials such as flowers and candles either stack to produce tiered displays. Plants stuff shows up on top, inside, or stacked next to the wellness stuff.
Inside the main entry are seven frames with three bridges and three stairs connected. Each frame is divided into four different areas, each area contains different things, some are plants and some are wellness stuff. The plants in some spaces are fished from the ceiling to give people a feeling of being in nature.
On the northside exterior of the building are fifteen windows on the wall that are visible to passersby. The bridges and stairs connected all frames and it shows people’s circulation. Some parts of these frames are covered by two types of glass which represent different stuff inside those frames. The glass does not cover all the frames so that people will have a different sense of space experience.
The spatial experience is marked by plants and wellness stuff that surround linear paths of circulation defined by frames.Frames connected by bridges and stairs and it shows human circulation. Some parts of these frames are covered by two types of glass which represent different stuff inside those frames. The glass does not cover all the frames so that people will have a different sense of space experience.
