This project is an orphanage in a community. It serves for 8-10 orphans and it is to build a bridge between orphans and other children. There is a shared kitchen, a dining place, a rest room, a bed room, a playground on the fist floor, and a courtyard. The most unique thing for this project is that most rooms and space are formed by the red ramps. The architecture is trying to represent the concept of “movement”. Generally, we define bedroom as a silent place, and take living room as a noisy place where most family activities happen. But orphans or some kids do not have a traditional realization of the definition of a family. Probably they are not quite in a bedroom, not noisy in a living room... etc. They got their own special thinking of space. They would like to chase each other and run in any huge, open space and they define the function of rooms by themselves. What this design left to orphans is that there are a lot of open spaces that are formed by ramps and there are various entrances and exits for each floor and even the roof. All the consequences and possibilities are left to kids to explore. The public space on each floor could be a classroom, a common room or another playground...etc. What I created is a architecture with multiple possibilities and give more opportunities to kids and make them define the functions by themselves.
