What I was going to create for this project is an exhibition space. The reason why I chose this angel as the isometric view is that this view shows the columnar circulation area and the huge triprismatic window. My design was trying to bring the natural light in and give guests a good experience for walking through the building. In my opinion, a good exhibition space is to encourage guests to explore the exhibits, but not trap people in a closed room. Therefore, the two semi-circle hollow did not only represent the entrances or exits. They attracted guests in, but also build a connection between guests inside the building and other pedestrian outside. It is a way to make guests see the light and take some fresh air in the architecture.
This elevation shows another window in this building. It is designed for make up the lack of light on the side that is opposite the triprismatic window. Heatherwick has been applied many spheres and cubes as windows or doors in a church design. The interesting space variety did attract many people to get in. That inspired me to create a combination of many shapes on my facade to catch eyes.
What the section shows is the hexagonal prisms exhibition space. The room is wide at the bottom and narrow at the top. It is easier to scatter the light and make atmosphere more “sacred”. As same as many church design, the high roof and narrow top make people inside the architecture focus more what they are looking at. This interdisciplinary trying is always what I try to do in my design.
