YANCONG E

The building is a combination of a home gym and a bar, locating at 18th St. of Charleston, IL. The size of the building is 40ft* 80*ft* 9ft and the parking lot is 4500sqft. Outer surface constructed with concrete blocks. Both the gym and bar have their own doors and windows but in the same decoration style.

The interior of this building is devided by two parts (bar and home gym) and people are able to enter from one to the other from the door on the partition wall. There are two rooms in the fitness area, one for the office and the other for the utility room. The middle area of the bar is the utility room and the bar counter.

In this knolled diagram we can get the specific components and materials of this building. Including HVAC, HVAC diffuser, roof, hanger wire, ceiling, lighting system, masonry, windows, window frame, doors, door frame, tiles, etc.

The exercise stuff ant map focusing on exercise equipment and categories, by understanding the effects and functions of aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise, I can think about the internal layout and arrangement of buildings in the future.

For the stuff ant map, by studying the classification of food by species nutrients, I understand their impact on the human body and connect with different types of exercise through energy intake and loss.

On the whole, the combination of gym and catering is a novel idea. How to make the two parts combined without independence is a problem that needs to be paid attention to in the later design.

According to the direction of framed and networked, I created a geometric structure with several square boxes connected. These boxes are divided into regular and rotated and distributed at different heights inside the building. The outline of the box is surrounded by metal pillars.

The boxes are interconnected to form a complete frame structure. Through the arrangement of the box layout, I use the box on the lower floor as the fitness area and the part on the second floor as the leisure and catering area.
Combined with the investigation of ant map, I put all anaerobic exercise related equipment in the box on the left (such as hammer strength, butterfly machine, etc.), while aerobic exercise related equipment (treadmill, indoor bicycle, etc.) is placed on the right.

In order to ensure people's privacy, an indirect perspective window is installed inside all metal frames, except at the intersection parts of each box. The whole leisure area is divided into left and right parts, and the corridor in the middle of the stairs connects the two parts, which simplified the circulation and enhance the rationality of spatial layout. The two boxes closest to the stairs on the upper floor are placed with a buffet bar. All people entering the inner box can pass by and take the food they want. The inner box consists of two layouts with different types and styles of sofas combinations.

The video beginning with the top view and shows the layout of the whole building. Each box is not independent, but there is some connection, but each box has a specific function so as not to interfere with each other. The area inside the building but outside the box is also arranged with some small fitness equipment, as well as water dispensers, potted plants, etc.

Through this parallel perspective video, the building can be divided into three levels. On the first floor, when people enter the building, they first see a small scattered fitness equipment area and some internal functional facilities. The second layer are all boxes assembly surrounded by the metal frame. It also includes all fitness equipment and furniture. The third floor is the interior wall of the building, which runs through from beginning to end.

The experience of the whole building is the feeling of "mutiple space", that is, the first space composed of external concrete exterior walls and the second space composed of irregular boxes surrounded by metal frames. At the same time, it ensures people's privacy requirements for fitness and rest. The dislocation of the bottom box and the top box meets the criterion of "neither independence nor mutual interference". The metal frame of each box enhances the visual effect, and the metal texture symbolizes strength, which is in line with the theme of fitness.
