XIUJIN LIU
In this project, I assume a new type of
business-family restaurant, my character is a 40 year-old man who live in this
building run a family restaurant in it and also rent his house to the students
nearby.
So in this project, this building is not a pure public and private building, it's a multi-function building. house should open to the public, attract customer and also provide some privacy.
In this project, two roads extrude from the building which creates a public corridor and blur the boundary of the inside space and outside space. The walls and curtains combined creates some private spaces that are hidden in the public space. Therefore, the whole building would function as a public space, with some private space waiting to be explored.
My element is curtain, the curtain acts as a membrane to complete the shape, using curtain to enclose space could make space more flexible , they enclose different space also give more connection between the space.
The formation of the building is as followed. First, based on some repetited lines, I try to find some basic shape in it, and extrude them to different hight, began to slight slope the roof, to explore more possibility in the vertical direction. And finally I got the basic shape of my model, them I try to blur the line, and find the connection between space and curtain.

here are my plans, sections, elevations, axon and also some diagrams to show different part have different function in different condition . This is two public corridors, as I said before, they blur the boundary between the indoor space and the outdoor space, you can pass through it from outside to outside, also can pass from inside to outside. And there is some activities here too. And from the second part, I extrude the side room to narrow the original gap, making them more like a entity, these are two private spaces hide behind the public space and share one kitchen. And for the rented house the bedroom and living room can combine together too. Finally, here is the family run a restaurant and cook in the kitchen, this could also be seen a an entity for a family business.
For plan two there is one thing to highlight, we make use of the roof space to create a outside party space only for the tenant and the renter, sometimes they can share the space, sometimes they can get together here for celebration. So this space can make the family and the student more closer and communicate more.
For the axon, I pay more attention to my curtain, so I highlight the curtain and also show some relationship between curtain and glass and wall.
Here I want to use rederin model to show how I make a model and also some picture of my model. In my model, I mainly consider the material of the curtain,and the relashionship between curtain materials and space. For pivate space, I used wihte curtain to mimic walls, for public space I use more fancy curtain to try to include more people and more activities in it.
