The aerial view shows a city block surrounded by: Fifth Avenue (at the back), Darragh Street (on the left), Chesterfield Road (on the right), and Terrace Street (in front). The city block is primarily containing the UPMC Montefiore Hospital which is a series of interconnected buildings. Located in the Oakland area it falls under the EMI zoning protocols which is area dedicated for Educational and Medical Institutions. However, the private single-family attached houses fall under R1A-VH which is a small area, large enough to cover the houses of this city block and the houses across the street.
The drawing shows key characteristics of the city block. This block has a major focus on traffic flow. There is easy access via vehicular transit into/out of the city block. There exist many parking lights and the routes into/out of them are highlighted. Also shown is the pedestrian traffic which travels around the block and into the block for access to any given house as well as the hospital. A highlighted sky bridge route is available to enter directly into the building.
The Actor-Network Map traces the history of Pittsburgh. Looking into the UPMC Montefiore Hospital in particular the greater Pittsburgh history plays a key role into the shaping of the city. A largely immigrant heavy city due to the three waves of immigration, this city holds its creation and efforts due to these immigrants. A key player reinforces this through generous philanthropy. The Montefiore Hospital was thusly created to allow minority groups (specifically those of the Jewish religion) a place to practice medicine. Highlighted in the map is the relationships and other history that note its importance in creation and its interactions in the modern day with the modern environment. Further, the zoning images help illustrate the shaping of the city and the factors at play in and around the place in question. Finally, the societal context illustrates the importance and continued efforts of these places within the lives of those living in Pittsburgh and may invoke further insight into the possibilities of future urban impacts.
This Gif is rotating through three alternative images: A view of the area as is currently, a view of a change in textures and other elements to the area, and a view of a night-time activity. The area is transformed to show various possible activities in what is otherwise a people barren, and dull man-made area. Incorporating more green and natural elements into the space brings further life to a place where people are being healed to live their lives. This also makes it a more enjoyable area for ongoing activities, such as the ones illustrated. A diverse set of people have also been placed in the area as the area is diverse, and because the area was intended to be a place for diverse people to treat illness.
