This isometric drawing details a circular structure with a
rounded interior. I envisioned the structure constructed out of solid concrete
with voids hollowed out to allow light into the interior space. There is a
curvilinear skylight that provides a large opening for sunlight to illuminate
the interior. The low, rectangular window bisects the entire structure,
providing a small shelf and a soft light near the floor of the space.
This elevation drawing details the tilting of the exterior and
interior walls. The inversion was intended to veil the experience of the
interior space when approaching the structure. The tilt of the walls references
Richard Serra's curvilinear steel sculptures. For this reason, I pushed the
skylight and the window to the top and bottom of the structure respectively in
order to preserve the solidity of the wall and its impact on the viewer.
This section drawing further details the angle of the walls
and how that impacts their thickness throughout the structure. The enlargement
of the walls at the base of the structure demonstrates why the low, rectangular
windows will let in less light.
