The main focus of this proposal is to provide our studio’s community with a space accessible to everyone regardless of their physical status and ability. The project incorporates a valuable library resource for users to expand their knowledge, and connect with locals and/or travelers with a hostel which brings temporary users into the open space environment of the building. With a stron focus on the open air concept, the building expands its usable space to beyond the exterior wall perimeters and into the outdoor atmosphere.
The designs prominent feature is the flow and transition of accessbility. Multiple ramps and an elevator core with staircase creates swift transitions from either entry of the hostel or library. A strong traffic flow connects both sides to help creat an easy way finding which is mimicked on the second level.
The design is meant to curate an out put of mental health by the use of biophilic assets. Such as limited interior walls to provide visual of the outdoors, the smell/sight of plants within and of the perimeter of the site, and by the natural use of materials in order to create a connection when using each space.
All hostel users have access to their individual open sleep space with a hygiene area on level two to create privacy. With a strong traffic flow on the west side of each floor plan it is balanced by a more quiet, reserved lounge space on each east end.
The notion behind the outdoor library creates a one to one impact beween users and wildlife as they skim the ADA modular bookshelves. These bookcases are interwoven throughout the entire structure with the idea of having easy access in mind.

Overall, the space is fixated on all accessibility levels, is desired to increase positive mental health, and to give to the community in an expansive, open, air layout.
