The objective is to focus on the way negative space can flow through a single shape. The cut out features carry a similar output to the way an observatory acts. Which is an enclosed, tight entry to an infinite-like space above. Therefore, this idea sprung to the forefront as the initial concept. The carved out shapes also resemble a modern, outer space-like structure; which became the inspiration when percisely carving out shapes from the cylinder base. (Isometric View)
When viewing the elevation's internal shapes the concept can be seen more prominently. This is due to the oculus feature above, and the strong leading lines to the dome shape in the center. The intersection of shapes also create a calming appearance, which is due to the alignment of the negative space. (Elevation)
The section cut from the middle of the cylinder base gives a better visual of the infinite-like space at the top. Also shown is the triangular form of the threshold, or the tight entry, which leads to the oculus feature. Together this form creates a cohesive design meant to lead your eye from the base to the top. (Section)
