JIABAO ZHU
This building is located in a village in Guizhou, China. The building was originally an abandoned factory and was later transformed into a comprehensive activity place. It retains the original bricks and wooden structure. The outer wall is made of bricks, while the roof and ceiling are made of wood.
The exterior and supporting structure of the building retain the original bricks and wooden construction, while the interior is divided into different functional areas by several different white boxes, such as bar, dinning space, multi-functional space, etc., and supported by black steel. The white box also creates a interlayer space. The ground is made of concrete. It's kind of conbination of old and new.
This diagram shows the building as a kit-of-parts. I use the concrete floor as the background. The square shapes represent the preserved parts of the building, brick walls, tile roofs and wooden roofs. The fixed triangular wooden frame was completely retained in order to show its unique structure. These parts also include different steel doors and windows, stairs and wooden floors with radom order to differentiate with the remained stuff.
The pool stuff explored the circulation system of the swimming pool and the shape of the swimming pool. And a process from production to transportation to purchase of swimming products such as ground swimming pools and swimsuits.
The outdoor stuff focus on defining what outdoor stuff might be. Outdoor products are the equipment required for outdoor activities. Therefore, I extended to explore the outdoor activities and the corresponding equipment and products.
My design includes pool and outdoor stuff assembled by messing in a nested organization. There are four different activity areas, including skateboarding Park, two different swimming pools, climbing area and camping area. These different active areas correspond to different nested shapes. Items related to these activities are randomly and disorderly distributed in these areas.
In the skateboard park area, skateboards, skateboard racks, bicycles, skateboarding shoes, skateboard park seats, skateboard park trash cans and other items are randomly distributed. In the swimming pool area, lifeguard chairs, floats, lifebuoys, surfboards, swimming pool sofas, umbrellas, swimsuits, swimsuit models, etc. float on the water at random. In the climbing area, there are climbing walls, climbing frames, jungle gym, etc. placed on the inflatable ball at different angles and different. There are two floors in the camping area, including touring car, tent, folding tables and chairs for camping, water supply device, etc.
On the front side exterior of the building is a wooden staggered structure, served as ceiling. At the front of the picture is the section of a swimming pool and the objects floating in the swimming pool. Located in the middle of the picture is the exposed section of a part of the skate field covered by the ground and the objects on the skate field and the skate field, the second higher swimming pool and the tents and RV in the camping area. At the back of the picture is the wall and rock climbing area. This constitutes the order of the whole picture.
The spatial experience is marked by different nesting areas and the circular path formed by the edge of each nested area. Each edge of nested shape is set with an edge of about one meter. The edge and edge are connected and staggered to form a trail for people to walk and guide people to different areas. Different nested areas have different heights, which also form a rich spatial experience on the elevation view.
