DAVIED CORDERO

This four-story building is meant as an apartment building for first generation students within a bigger community. Lack of resources and experience might be a detterent for many, but the layout of the structure facilitates interaction as well as independence. The first two and the top stories are meant as living quarters, while the third is open for living and community spaces. Additionally, the second story hosts a cafe with a connection to a community-wide walkway to allow others to enjoy the space together.

Elevations (South- and East-facing).

Access to the different floors is provided by stairwells placed in strategic locations as to not interrupt circulation. Staircases forming a V-shape on the first floor provide acccess to separate studio apartments on the second floor. A curving staircase opens up to a terrace on the third floor where the last staricase provides access to the final floor.

Sections.

Each floor has a unique shape and angle to add a sense of originality and character. The different angles allow for a variety of vantage points to the exterior as well as privacy from prying eyes. Windows are placed high on the sides of each floor while the ends are either glass balconies or glass walls. Given that the building runs North-South in it’s longest side, daylight will always be present without filtrating through to the interior.

Plans.

Each floor has a unique floor plan that serves multiple purposes. The first floor includes four single-bedrooms as well as two bathrooms. All are connected in the interior by a long hallway. The second floor is split into two individual studio apartments with their own bathrooms. This floor also shares access to the community-wide walkway and a terrace with access to a cafe. The third floor consists of an open area for living space as well as an outside terrace. This interior living space consists of space for a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and living room for 6 people, as well as an additional bathroom. Finally, the last floor is a single-bedroom apartment with its own space for living and sleeping with outdoor access to exposed balconies.
