This is a figure-ground diagram of Buck
Town, Chicago. it is an old block, the whole town is near the highway leading
from downtown to O'Hare airport. the history of Buck Town dates back 200 years.
In the twentieth century, there was an influx of Polish immigrants to the area.
Today, Buck Town and Wicker Park are mostly populated by young people. The main
street is dominated by bars and stores on both sides, with low-rise buildings
and single-family homes on the rest.
This aerial view shows the intersection of
N Ashland Ave, W Division St, and N Milwaukee Ave and the city block
surrounding the intersection. the highlighted building is the ten-story PNC
Bank office building. The overall façade design makes the building stand out
among the many older buildings.
This diagram shows the main characteristics
of the city block around the intersection of N Ashland Ave and W Division St,
including the hard landscape (roads, drive-thru, sidewalks) and the soft
landscape (green space, gardens). The two main streets are heavily traveled by
traffic and the side streets around PNC Bank are ONE WAY. The ATM drive-thru,
accessed from the back of PNC Bank, runs halfway through the building, and is
located under the second floor of the building. The main street is lined with
trees and streetlights.
This Actor-Network map shows the historical
development, natural environment, and people around Buck town and Wicker Park.
Beginning with the history of construction in Chicago, the city began to grow
and expand rapidly in the 19th century. There was a large influx of Polish
immigrants in the twentieth century. Over time, the air quality in Buck town
has become a problem in almost all major cities, and there are safety issues as
the facilities age and the city updates public facilities. At the same time,
Milwaukee Ave, where Buck town is located, is one of the three places in
Chicago with the most Main Street murals. In the 1970s, Buck town and Wicker
Park became affordable places for artists and musicians to rent. So there is a strong art scene in the area,
with more than 20 large murals in Buck town alone. Finally, here is some
information about PNC Bank.
This image shows the street view at different times of the day and
weather. The viewpoint is located at the back of the city block, next to the fast-food
restaurant. The first image is the original image from google maps, taken in
the morning. The second image is at sunset, when the streetlights are just
coming on. I replaced the mural on the wall because the painting on this
building will be changed once every few years.
The last one is a street view on a rainy night.
I tried to remove the cars because the main road has a lot of traffic during
the day.
