ALEXA CHIROUSSOT-CHAMBEAUX

In relation to my neighbor, Axel, the concept of my program begins with the idea of repurposing materials. The program in particular focuses on artisans taking what would be traditionally considered trash or otherwise unusable material such as bottle caps, fabrics, and other small miscellaneous items and converting them into art pieces, scultptures and paintings. Then it can be materialized through the form.
These building structures avoid defining a space through standard means using the flaps that open and close, creating new situations and redefining traditional spaces. The panels can open and are sturdy enough to create bridges and porches, encouraging social interactions or create secluded environments when all the panels are closed. The ground level is community space, allowing for market space and artisan workshops. So these panels also allow movement and community needs when open, during market days, and closed off during work days.

Ground Floor Plan
The ground level contains the large work tables and two kitchenettes.

Second Floor Plan
The second floor plan includes a queen bed, three bathrooms and a kitchenette.

Third Floor Plan
The third floor plan includes two queen beds and an opening to the lower levels.

Elevations
The interior spaces contain patterned wallpaper to emphasize the difference between the open and closed stages of the space.

Sections
The second and third level focuses on the private space with the ground floor serving as the community space for creating and distributing goods.
This section depicts the opportunity for connection between two of the three buildings. This flow is possible on the top floors as well as the ground floor.
